Help!

We are in need of a new digital camera. I was just wondering if anybody had some suggestions. We have had a Kodak Easyshare c743. It takes good pictures, but goes through batteries so fast. I am spending way too much money on batteries. I am not a photographer, but would like a camera that takes nice pictures, doesn't eat the batteries, and doesn't cost a fortune.
So, if you have any ideas, I would love to hear them.
Thanks!

I liked my Canon Digital Rebel. It was a good starter camera. It has buttons for manual controls and then some for automatic. So if in the future you wanted to learn more about photography, you wouldn't have to upgrade. It was pretty reasonably priced if I remember correctly.

We have a Canon something or other. I like it, but I don't remember what it cost. I know we bought it at Target. Sorry - this comment is officially of NO HELP WHATSOEVER. But I hope someone has a good suggestion...

Jess, are you using rechargeable batteries? We have a recharger and some extra batteries. It works well for us.

I have a sony cyber-shot. It was pretty pricey at the time but I got it like five years ago. I'm sure the price has gone down big time. But as you can tell, it has lasted a long time!! And I just plug mine in whenever I need to charge it back up. I've never bought batteries for it.

Thank you so much for the suggestions so far. This is really helpful and gives me an idea of where to start looking.
Scott,
I have tried rechargeable batteries, and the expensive lithium ones too and it still goes through them so fast.

I like Canon's. If you just want a good "normal" camera, I have heard the power shot is a great camera. If you want a dslr, the rebel is a good choice. I don't have either one myself, I have a canon d30, but I want to buy a power shot just to have so i don't have to lug my big ole thing around with me all the time.

I'm so glad you asked this because I have the same problem. Probably because I have the same camera, I think. Good suggestions

I have a Kodak camera, too, and I hate that it so easily gets bumped from "off" to "on", so it goes through batteries like water. I have a Canon Rebel (but it uses film) and it's a great camera, but it's kind of cumbersome if you just want an everyday camera. But, um, I have no suggestions otherwise. Let us know what you decide on!

We have a Cannon Digital Elph that we have had for years - it is very small so it's easy to grab and stick in your purse (my husband can carry it in his pocket). It also comes with a rechargeable lithium ion battery. We bought an extra one so we always have one fully charged. A couple of years ago we bought a Cannon Powershot. It is a much bigger camera that probably has more settings or something. It takes great pictures and video. We still use both cameras - one for its size and the other if we want really great pictures (it has more mega pixels than the elph, but the elph is really old). I guess to sum it up, we have always had great luck with Cannon. Hope that helps.

Wow, thanks for the great response. I am thinking a Canon may be the way to go. I haven't heard anything negative about them.

i have a sony cybershot and love it! and it's definitely cheaper now than it was 2 years ago when i bought mine. it comes with the rechargeable battery and a charger and i haven't had problems with doing it that way. and all of the pictures i've taken with it have turned out really well.

Hi Jess,
We had the same camera, same problem. We stayed with the Kodak and bought the Kodak Easy Share z710, this time I invested in the Kodak rechargable batteries and charger, it is about $20.00 at Walmart and comes w/ 4 batteries, so you always have 2 charged and ready. They don't die nearly as fast.

Jess, I have a Canon PowerShot A530. It is small and has many good features, including auto-focus or specialty modes, even short video. The pictures are great, it has a zoom, but it is not rechargeable. I am very happy with it for my purposes.

Okay, so you already have 14 suggestions, but here is one more.... the Sony Cybershot. Dave asked for a new digital camera for his birthday, so I was doing the same research myself a few months ago and settled on this one. I think it cost ~$150-$170 and we've never had to replace a battery; just recharge it once in a while. We've had it for 10 months now and love it!

I had the same battery problem with my Kodak. I got the rechargeable batteries and they saved me so much money.
